I begin with an admission. I have often wondered how people were able to capture the images from their desktop and make training videos. I thought, Wow, how cool, I would like to be able to do that but always seemed to have something going on and didn’t have the time to research how to do it. Our textbook, Blogs, Wikis, Podcasts, and Other Powerful Web Tools for Classrooms by Will Richardson has solved many of my questions about tools available and how to use them. I am grateful for this awesome resource that I will continue to use long past this course.
This week we looked at Jing and screen casting I have finally been shown the answer to one my many technology questions. It is an awesome tool for teaching students and educators without having to be right in front of them. Jing allows you to take video or images of the screen, save the file, and share with other. I love the fact that the sun icon is always on the screen so that I can capture an image to share or video so that I can show step by step how to implement technology. There have been many times where I have been asked a question and I just did screen shots and dropped them into word to train teachers. I feel that now I will be able to make training videos so that teachers can view them at their own pace and review as needed.
The following link will take you to my first attempt at a screencast.

I chose to show how to do an assignment in Edmodo because I have had several teachers at school ask. It is not polished; however, now I can be more effective as I prepare to be an instructional technology coach.
