Diversity
The definition of diversity is the inclusion of individuals representing more than one national origin, color, religion, race, sex, socioeconomic stratum, or sexual orientation. I tend struggle with the word diversity because I don’t judge based on race, color, sex, age, etc. and I don’t see anyone as different from me because we are all people who are trying to achieve goals and fulfill dreams. I hold the view that all people are all created equal and have the ability to achieve what they set their mind to. I must, however; keep the varied backgrounds in mind as lessons and technologies are planned.
During my experience in the Instructional Technology Specialist program at Kennesaw State University I have gained knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to incorporate technology to meet needs of all students and teachers that I work with. The field experiences have allowed me to work with ELL students, students who are gifted, students who have disabilities, and students we consider average. One thing they have in common is their desire to use technology to learn.
The following is a list of experiences that I have addressed diversity:
· Identifying technologies for and working with a student with disabilities to improve math skills based on the need they identified
· Differentiating instruction through the use of a Webquest and Engaged Learning lesson to meet the needs of all students
· Analyzing data to determine strengths and weakness for demographic groups and subgroups and made recommendations based on findings
· Developing strategic plans that address the needs of all students
· Implementing lessons that address various levels of student learning
