I begin by talking about the text for the course. The text, The Principal as Technology Leader, struck a chord with me right away. My principal will be the first to tell you that she is not good with technology and many times asks the kids to help her. She supports technology integration and monitors it use in the classroom; however, after reading the text, I realize that our school may have technology but the principal, I am sure with my help, has some work to do in planning ongoing professional development and involving stakeholders in helping the technology committee to develop a shared vision.
I have learned that most of the professional development that I have received is in fact more of a training because it was not ongoing.
The SWOT analysis, essential conditions survey, and other tools from this course will be a useful as our technology committee meets to begin developing a shared vision. I am a grade level representative so skills learned through this course will be applied as we work to make technology integration a priority.
My learning experiences throughout this course have challenged me to as a technology leader. I have learned that all stakeholders need to be involved not just the trailblazers and pioneers. We must also include the resisters and saboteurs. A powerful statement for me to remember is cited in the text by Schlechty and it says, “the best place to have saboteurs is on the inside where they can be watched rather than on the outside where they can cause trouble without it being detected until the effects have been felt”.
The RSS feed is a tool that has kept me abreast of ever changing technologies. I will continue using this feed to stay current and update with changes and advances in technology.
